Angola energy report

Highlights:
  • The new "Angola 2050" strategy set an objective of 60% of renewables in the electricity mix in 2035.
  • The country aims to reduce its GHG emissions by 21% in 2030, compared to a BaU scenario.
  • TotalEnergies is the largest oil operator and Chevron the largest gas producer (both with around half of total operated production).
  • PRODEL, a public company, operates around 2/3 of the total power capacity.
  • Angola is the fourth largest oil producer in Africa.
  • After a very rapid progression until 2020 (~12%/year), electricity production remained stable in 2022 and 2023.
  • Hydropower represents 79% of the power mix.
