    The gas exploration and exploitation activities in the country are managed by Bahrain National Gas Company (BANAGAS), which is owned by the State (75%), Chevron Bahrain (12.5%) and Boubyan Petrochemical Company K.S.C. (BPC) (K.S.C, 12.5%).

  • Energy Supply


    At the end of 2015 the country's proven oil reserves were estimated at 17 Mt and the gas reserves at 92 bcm. The country does not have coal reserves.

    Gas prices have been fixed at US0.76c/kWh since the last raise of 2012. Noga had to increase gas prices in response to rapidly growing gas demand and gas price subsidies in the country.

    Total per capita energy consumption is 10.8 toe (including about 19 400 kWh of electricity) (2014).

    Consumption has almost doubled since 2000 and reached 14.8 Mtoe in 2014.



  • Issues & Prospects


    Bahrain faces gas supply difficulties which restrain its industrial production (especially aluminium), while the gas consumption in the power sector keeps increasing. The country foresees a consumption of 20.6 bcm by 2020.
