    In December 2019, the government revised down the level of natural gas reserves from 300 bcm to 254 bcm (-15%), as reserves were deemed not as economically viable as previously estimated.

    The country has a significant hydroelectric potential (50 TWh economically exploitable), just a small part of which is being exploited (around 5%). Oil reserves are at 78 Mt (2019).

  • Energy Prices


    According to the Electricity Code, the electricity tariffs of all the companies are subject to a preliminary authorisation: they are supposed to be calculated on the basis of cost and a profitability rate of 9%. They are about US$10c/kWh and US$10.2c/kWh, respectively, for industry and households (2019).


  • Energy Consumption

    The country's energy consumption per capita is low but growing, at 0.8 toe in 2018, including 750 kWh of electricity.

    Since 2010, total energy consumption increased by an average of 5%/year, reaching 9 Mtoe in 2018.
