    The Ministry of Energy and Hydraulics controls the power sector.

    The Ministry of Hydrocarbons is in charge of oil and gas issues. The Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation and Tourism is responsible for the management of forests.


  • Energy Companies


    Three major oil companies conducte extractive operations: Perenco conducts offshore oil extraction on the Costal Basin whereas Total and Cohydro (Congolaise of Hydrocarbons) explore and extract oil in the Eastern part of the country. 


  • Energy Supply


    Oil production has been stable at around 1.1 Mt since 2008. It declined slightly between 2004 and 2007 (1.4 Mt in 2004).

    Since the closure of the SOCIR refinery in 2001 all the production is exported.

  • Energy Prices


    Gasoline and diesel prices are very similar, at US$1.5/l in 2015, showing a decrease of almost 16% compared to the previous year (2014) due to the fall in oil price (Brent). Meanwhile, DR Congo is among the five countries with the highest prices in Sub-Saharan Africa.

  • Energy Consumption

    Energy consumption per capita is 0.4 toe, including around 100 kWh of electricity (2015).
