  • Energy Supply


    Lithuania has limited oil reserves estimated at 1.7 Mt (end of 2018). The US Energy Information Administration estimates shale gas resources at 113 bcm. Wood and peat are important energy sources. The country's hydroelectric potential is estimated at about 2 TWh/year.

  • Energy Prices


    Regulated prices for households are controlled by the National Control Commission for Prices and Energy (VKEKK). Electricity prices more than doubled between 2000 and 2013, but have been declining since then: by 4.5%/year for industry between 2013 and 2018 (8% lower than the EU average in 2018) and by 3.8%/year for households (47% lower than the EU average).


  • Energy Consumption

    Total energy consumption per capita is 2.7 toe, and around 4000 kWh for electricity (2018); those consumption rates are 14% and 28% below the EU average, respectively.


    Total energy consumption has been increasing by 2%/year since 2014 to 7.6 Mtoe in 2018.
