    The price of electricity for households was stable between 2010 and 2014.It decreased by 16% in 2015, but subsequently rose by 10% in 2019. In 2019, the price for industry was US$9.4c/kWh (55 CFAF) and for households US$14.7c/kWh (86 CFAF).


  • Energy Consumption

    The country's total energy consumption per capita is 0.15 toe, including 44 kWh of electricity. It is the second lowest energy consumption per capita in West Africa, behind Guinea Bissau, and the ninth lowest in the world.

    Energy consumption has increased by 3.3%/year since 2013, but had jumped by almost 20%/year between 2011 and 2013.

  • Issues & Prospects

    The other main issues to be dealt with over the next few years are the battle against deforestation (Niger loses 400 000 hectares of forest every year, mainly because of the use of wood for cooking), self-sufficiency regarding electricity, and the development of electrification.
