  • Energy Supply


    Proven oil reserves stand at 167 Mt and gas reserves at 466 bcm (end of 2018). Coal reserves stand at 102 Mt. Peru has important hydroelectric resources, with an estimated potential of 70 GW; its wind potential is estimated at 22 GW.

  • Energy Prices


    The price of electricity is US$10c/kWh for industry and US$14.5c/kWh for the residential sector (2018). While the industry price has remained relatively stable since 2014, residential prices saw a slight decrease until 2017 from their peak in 2014. Regulated prices are revised twice a year by Osinergmin, with an additional revision every 4 years.


  • Energy Consumption

    In 2018, per capita energy consumption was 0.77 toe, which is around 25% below the South American average (around 1.3 toe). Electricity consumption per capita is 1 480 kWh.

  • Issues & Prospects

    Peru has been faced with a significant energy demand growth since the mid-2000s, and consequently requires its energy supply capacities to be substantially expanded. According to Peru's National Energy Plan 2014-2025, the country aims to attain a 60% renewables share in 2025 (of which 54% from hydro).
